13/06/2007: Fresh new sounds
We've been in The Studio recording four new songs:
- Music That Doesn't Remind Me of Her
- Maybe It's Too late
- Promises And Lies
- Sometimes We Take Ourselves Too Seriously
We've been playing them all at gigs recently. Some people might notice that Sometimes We Take Ourselves Too Seriously was released on the "Dying" EP back in 2003; it's the sparse instrumental from that record with lots of extra musicians and words all over it. We're pretty excited about the new recordings; I think Music... will probably go up on our myspace page when it's done, which could be sometime over the weekend.
22/02/2007: Back again
We have a new website. It was designed by Simon Minter at Nineteenpoint. We like it.
We also have some gigs at long last, and some new songs to play at them.
It's all change round here.
16/09/2006: Eccentric and eclectic
The good people at Subba-Cultcha have seen fit to include us on their "Eccentric & Eclectic" podcast. It also features our Brainlove friends Bishi and Junkplanet as well as bands with names like Ten Foot Nun, National Snack and Zonderhoof. I'm not sure which are eclectic and which are eccentric - you'll have to check yourself to find out.
Either way, we encourage you to download the podcast yourself and have a listen: here.
In other news, we have a launch party booked for the "Let's Go: Remixed" album: on Thursday 14th September our very good friends Sunnyvale Noise Sub-element, nervous_testpilot and Lind Optical will be performing live at Oxford's Port Mahon to wet the head of the record, which is available for pre-order now, here.
08/09/2006: Summer releases
Summer does funny things to people, I find. It's filled us with the insatiable urge to release records, so we've found ourselves in the greedy position of releasing TWO ALBUMS within the space of two months. Since we finished getting them together we've been taking a small breather from live performance; I've been rediscovering the art of sitting in meadows, walking by rivers, reading fine literature and wooing women. Well, you've got to have a hobby outside being in a band, haven't you.
"FIREFIGHTERS/DYING EPs" (Series52, Unlabel) - released July 24th 2006
The excellent Unlabel label have seen fit to re-release our "Firefighters" and "Dying" EPs. The two EPs were originally released in Summer 2003 in limited runs of 50 copies each, so we're glad to see them get a slightly wider run (this time it's 100 copies). Firefighters begins with angry noise and keeps up the tempo, building up to our live-favourite adaptation of the theme from Channel 4 News, "See For"; Dying starts quieter and continues in the same vein, as a soothing antidote to whatever happens to be ailing you. Available for the bargain price of £4.75 from the Series52 website from Monday.

"LET'S GO: REMIXED" (Freedom Road Records) - released August 28th 2006
We received Visitor Q's remix of "Minerals" in late 2002 and Sunnyvale Noise Sub-Element's remix of "I'm Never Going To Leave The House Again" in May 2006, between which we've also solicited remixes from Twizz Twangle, Trademark, boywithatoy, Smilex, nervous_testpilot, Lind Optical and many others. From the gentle elegance of King of The Rumbling Spires to the brainbreak chainsaw'n'bass of The Beta Prophecy via the mad-as-cheese Wendy And The Brain, it's a cracking collection of tracks, bound together by their own tenuous connections to our debut album. Available to pre-order now for £7.50 from the Freedom Road Records website.

In addition, we have a batch of web-only free downloadable remixes from Beautiful Screaming Lady, former Sunnyvale Noise Sub-Element man best known these days for his pioneering work with Cardiff-based Traw. All three are available only on the Freedom Road Records website, here.
OTHER EVENINGS-RELATED NEWS
Seb's KEYBOARD CHOIR have just come back from a week's recording at their idylic rural Ireland studio; tracks, pictures and blog ramblings are at their myspace page. Phil's BORDERVILLE project has been tearing up the Oxford scene with the tight songwriting and on-stage flamboyance to be expected from former members of Sexy Breakfast, most recently having stormed the Sunday Steamer to uniform praise. Jo's SPACE HEROES OF THE PEOPLE project has tracks for you to inspect on myspace, and though I'm told they're a little way from gigging yet I'd recommend watching this space. I've wound down my own other musical projects for now in order to devote my full care and attention to The Evenings, though don't worry; I'm sure Lum Col Con Pix will do another gig in March 2007 or thereabouts.
